Nominates two persons for each elective position and recommends procedures for conducting the election.
Committee Charge
Nominations & Elections Committee is charged to:
- Encourage the membership to submit nominations for the Board
of Directors and President-Elect by September 1.
- Review
the applications and select the candidates for the Board of Directors by mid December. The selection of candidates is:
- Governed
by the NCTM Bylaws which require each candidate to have been a member of NCTM continuously
for the past three years, balanced across levels (elementary, middle, high
school, and college or university) and geographic regions;
- Guided by evidence of the candidate demonstrating leadership,
vision, and collaboration; commitment to mathematics education; and a wide
range of experiences.
- Review
the applications and select two candidates for President-Elect in the
appropriate year. The selection of candidates is:
- Governed
by the NCTM Bylaws which require each candidate to have been a member of NCTM
continuously for the past five years and have served on the Board of Directors,
as a major chair, or in another major leadership role in the Council;
- Guided by evidence of the candidate demonstrating collaboration, strong
leadership and vision for the Council; commitment to mathematics education; and
a wide range of experiences.
- Notify
candidates and their supervisors that they will be placed on the slate of
candidates for the Board or President-Elect.
- Submit
a report to the Board:
- Informing
them of the slate of candidates for the Board
- Informing them of candidates for the President-Elect
- Monitor, facilitate, and evaluate all aspects of the nominations
and elections process according to the Election Timeline.
- Review and respond to all requests from the Board.
