The NCTM 2023 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC offers a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest topics and trends in mathematics education, improve your instructional practice, network, and much more. Use NCTM’s justification toolkit to help define and clearly communicate the benefits of attendance to administrators and supervisors so you can make your case. 

Yes, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is ADA compliant. NCTM is committed to ensuring that our events are fully accessible to all persons. For any ADA requirements, please contact NCTM Conference Services at [email protected] by September 27, 2023.


Due to the large size of this event, distances between sessions can be considerable. If you can get along without a wheelchair but feel that you may need one to navigate the distances at the conference, electric scooters can be rented from https://scootaround.com/en/washington-dc. Mobility devices will be dropped off at the Information Booth (Grand Lobby) of the Convention Center. Should you arrive and determine services will be needed, the ambassadors at the desk are available to assist with your rental needs.

The public sidewalks serving the Walter E. Washington Convention Center feature curb cuts for wheelchair access. Automatic doors are located at the Mt. Vernon Place, L Street, and Metro entrances to the Center. Inside the center, meeting rooms, exhibit halls and common areas are all served by conveniently located elevators. Telephones, drinking fountains and restrooms throughout the building are wheelchair accessible. 

If you require an interpreter, please submit your request before September 27, 2023. After this date, NCTM cannot guarantee requests for interpreters can be fulfilled; however, we will make every effort to accommodate requests. Please note: On-site requests for interpreters cannot be guaranteed without advance notice. Send your requests to [email protected].

If you are blind or visually impaired and require an aide or personal assistant to help you navigate the Annual Meeting, NCTM will register your aide as a complimentary guest (if the aide is not a teacher). Information must be sent to [email protected] by September 27, 2023.  

Individuals traveling from outside of the United States to attend a NCTM event may request a Letter of Invitation to the event. The letter may be used to support an individual's request for organizational or governmental clearance to attend the event.

Individuals requesting a Letter of Invitation to an NCTM event must be fully registered - including payment in full - for the NCTM event for which they are requesting an invitation. Individuals do not have to be a member of NCTM to request a Letter of Invitation.

A Letter of Invitation issued by NCTM will:

  • Be addressed directly to the individual requesting the invitation
  • Include the name, date, and location of the NCTM event
  • Indicate the individual's responsibility for all expenses related to his/her participation in the NCTM event (including registration, travel and accommodations)
  • Be signed by an authorized NCTM Representative
  • All letters of invitation will be sent via email. If you require a printed letter, please contact [email protected]. Additional fees may apply.

Yes. Register a group by using the online group registration button.

Yes. NCTM offers groups of five or more a significant discount. Each group registration must include a primary contact and separate email addresses for each attendee. Groups paying for their conference registration with a purchase order can register online and upload the purchase order form to expedite the process.

Individuals paying with a purchase order can register online and upload the purchase order form to expedite the process. Purchase order can also be mailed to NCTM Conference Registration, P.O. Box 844277, Dallas, TX 75284-4277 or faxed to 1 (888) 289-9844 (toll-free) / 1 (514) 289-9844 (international). PO’s should be received within 30 days of registering for the conference. 

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Cancellation/Refund Policy  
• Cancellation requests must be received in writing on or before September 27, 2023.  
• NCTM will issue a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee per person for each individual or group registration. NCTM will charge a $25 cancellation fee per person for emeritus member registration. Individuals and groups paying with a purchase order are still responsible for the cancellation fee.  
• Optional Events (such as workshops, the MET Celebration and yoga), membership dues and donations are non-refundable. 
• Refund requests will not be honored after September 27, 2023, even for no-shows.  
• Substitutions are allowed but must be received via email or letter prior to September 27, 2023. Substitutes must submit a letter explaining who they are substituting (and include registration number if possible). Nonmembers substituting for members will be charged the current nonmember registration rate. In addition, no discount will be given for members substituting for nonmembers. 
• Note that a group must contain at least 5 fully paid/non-cancelled/non-pending registrations to remain eligible for discounted pricing. If the confirmed group size drops below five, each remaining group participant will be changed to an individual and balance adjusted accordingly. 
• Refunds will be issued between eight and ten weeks after the Annual Meeting. 

NCTM MET grants offer annual funding opportunities for teacher professional development. MET grant application deadlines are May 1 and November 1 and include financial assistance for first-time attendees at an NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition.

Student members are automatically offered the student member discount when registering online. Student membership is designed for those enrolled in an accredited college or university as a full-time student with an interest in mathematics education. Proof of student status such as registration, class schedule, professor verification, etc., is required. For more information visit NCTM membership  

Letters regarding speaker proposal decisions for the event were sent out in April. In this communication, speakers received an invitation to register along with instructions. If you have questions or did not receive a letter, please send a note to [email protected]

Member discounts are applied at registration. If registering by phone, you will need to supply a member number to receive the discount. The 2023 NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition will be held in person, October 25-28, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. There is no online component for this event.

NCTM is committed to creating a respectful, inclusive, and professional experience for all participants. To make clear what is expected, we ask all attendees to read and agree to the following Code of Conduct and Event Safety Policy. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate attendance for anyone who violates these guidelines. If you have a complaint or concern about harassment, discrimination, bullying, or any other conduct which may violate this Code of Conduct we encourage you to promptly notify our staff at [email protected]

Dress for this event is business casual. Comfortable shoes are recommended. The average forecasted weather in Washington, DC in late October is around 65 degrees, with chances of rain at any time. While business casual is suggested for the event, keep in mind the Convention Center and hotel meeting room temperatures will fluctuate depending on size of room and attendance. Coat Racks will be made available throughout the convention space. Bag and coat check will not be available at the event.

Name badges must be worn to gain entry to all annual meeting sessions. Your name badge is about what you want to be called, and attendees have the flexibility to modify their badge name and pronouns. Use your registration ID to log in and update your badge display information to modify your name badge. Pronouns are available for selection from a drop-down list. If your pronouns are unavailable for selection, please email [email protected] so that we can add them to the drop-down menu. A certificate of attendance will be available to event attendees. It may be used to demonstrate attendance at the NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, DC. 

NCTM has partnered with the University of San Diego to provide an additional 1.0 graduate level extension credit in semester hours. You must track and attend 12 hours of programming at the Annual Meeting and submit a form to NCTM, to receive credit. Click here for more information.

NCTM is excited to announce we are partnering with international film and broadcasting company, WebsEdge, to bring NCTM TV to the 2023 Annual Meeting & Exposition.

NCTM TV is a great platform to highlight the hard work of educators and organizations committed to elevating the quality of mathematics education in the U.S. and provides an opportunity to learn about innovative programs and initiatives that are helping to transform mathematics teaching and learning.

NCTM TV will produce daily episodes throughout the conference. Each episode will feature:

  • Conference News: Onsite, NCTM TV will film interviews, capture session highlights, and hear attendee insights and reactions from around the conference.
  • In-Depth Reports: Five-minute pre-recorded documentary-style films will be featured, from universities, institutions, and organizations highlighting programs, case studies, and ongoing initiatives that are making a difference.

At the meeting, NCTM TV will be on screens around the venue, in selected attendee hotels on dedicated TV channels, and available online through video and social media platforms
