Critical Thought and Transformational Love: Learning to Love the World in Secondary Mathematics Education
Jeff Duncan-Andrade stated, “we have to break the false binary between choosing an academically rigorous classroom and one that is geared towards social justice.” Motivated by Duncan-Andrade, I created a vision for my classroom: We will be prepared through our rigorous math education to create a community that: values the knowledge of every person, critiques systems of oppression and acts, and recognizes our active commitment towards uplifting communities. Through my vision, I am discovering ways to create meaningful inquiry tasks that not only support content knowledge, but also develops a worldly schema for my students. I am aching for resources and a math community that will dialogue about strategies for vertical alignment through the process of inquiry learning and critical literacy that supports ALL students.
