Summer Math for Teachers - Developing Mathematical Ideas-Building a System of Tens

The Common Core State Standards start in Kindergarten focusing on the understanding of our system of tens and the relationships that occur within this system. (K.NBT.1) "Developing Mathematical Ideas-Building a System of Tens" provides the opportunity to explore the base-ten structure of the number system. Attending this week-long seminar will enrich my practice by allowing me to engage with mathematical ideas about this core math, consider how students develop these ideas, and look at how the ideas are developed over time, kindergarten through sixth grade. The funding of this grant will impact students within my classroom, teachers within my school, teachers within my district and future elementary teachers that attend Oregon State University-Cascades. This is possible because of my role as a classroom teacher, teacher leader at the school and district level, and as an instructor at Oregon State University-Cascades.
