Board Acts on 2007 Delegate Assembly Resolution

The following Delegate Assembly resolutions were acted on by the NCTM Board of Directors during its meeting in July:

* Resolution O.NR.07.01

Be it resolved that the Delegate Assembly recommends to the NCTM Board of Directors that the Western Caucus will meet following the opening session of the NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition in Salt Lake City (2008) and Washington, DC (2009) as a pilot.

Action: The Affiliate Services Committee (ASC) has indicated that the pilot program is feasible. The Board of Directors approves the recommendation and directs the Affiliate Services Committee to conduct the Western Caucus following the opening session at both 2008 and 2009 annual meetings. The ASC is further directed to develop criteria to evaluate the effectiveness of this change and its impact on the operation of the Delegate Assembly. The Board looks forward to receiving a report from the Affiliate Services Committee following the 2009 Delegate Assembly.

* Resolution O.NR.07.02

Be it resolved that the Delegate Assembly recommends to the NCTM Board of Directors that the review and release process for the grades 9-12 mathematics curriculum project include an opportunity for input from the general membership.

Action: The Board of Directors accepts the spirit and intent of the resolution. At its July meeting the Board approved the review process for this publication that was developed and submitted by the High School Curriculum Project Planning Task Force. The approved review process provides an opportunity for input by interested members. The details of the member review opportunity are:

All NCTM members will be notified via the Member Updates of the opportunity to submit comments to a public draft. Individuals will be given Web access to the draft of the high school curriculum publication and will be asked to respond using a Web-based form. A limited period of time will be allocated for this review in order to ensure timely production and release of this publication. 

* Resolution O.NR.07.03

Be it resolved that the Delegate Assembly recommends to the NCTM Board of Directors that in order to qualify for the Leadership Circle the percentage of the Partner Affiliate’s membership who are NCTM members should be a tiered structure with at least three (3) levels.

Action: The Board of Directors accepts the spirit and intent of the resolution. At its July meeting the Board approved a revised set of criteria and benefits for a three tier Leadership Circle. The criteria and benefits of the NCTM Affiliate Leadership Circle are:

  • NCTM Partner Affiliates must be “In Good Standing” in order to be invited to participate in the Leadership Circle program.
  • In order to be recognized at the next NCTM Annual Meeting, an Affiliate will make its membership information available to NCTM by February 1st prior to the Annual Meeting. This information will be submitted by E-mail to affiliates@nctm.org as a spreadsheet that includes either (a) each member of the Affiliate’s first name, last name, and complete mailing address or (b) each member of the Affiliate’s first name, last name and ZIP code.  The percent of NCTM members will be determined and verified by NCTM Headquarters.
  • An Affiliate can qualify for one of three recognition levels based upon the percent of Affiliate members who are also current members of NCTM. The levels and the minimum percentages for each recognition level are: SILVER (35%), GOLD (50%), and PLATINUM (65%).
  • The Leadership Circle recognition status is awarded for a three-year period beginning at the award ceremony held at the Delegate Assembly. An Affiliate may re-apply in any subsequent year if it believes that its recognition level has changed.
  • The Benefits to the Affiliate for each recognition level are:

ALL THREE LEVELS: Each Affiliate will receive –

  • Recognition at the Delegate Assembly each year of membership
  • Recognition in the NCTM Annual Meeting’s Daily News
  • Recognition in the NCTM News Bulletin
  • Recognition on the NCTM Web site
  • Recognition in the AffiliateNews
  • An article written by the NCTM president for publication in the Leadership Circle member’s newsletter in each year of membership

SILVER: Each qualified Affiliate will receive ––

  • A three-year certificate of NCTM Affiliate Leadership Circle SILVER membership

GOLD: Each qualified Affiliate will receive ––

  • One complimentary registration to Affiliate Leaders Conferences for each of the three years of GOLD level Affiliate Leadership Circle membership
  • A three-year certificate of NCTM Affiliate Leadership Circle GOLD membership

PLATINUM: Each qualified Affiliate will receive ––

  • A banner showing NCTM Affiliate Leadership Circle PLATINUM membership
  • Two complimentary registrations to Affiliate Leaders Conferences for each of the three years of PLATINUM level Affiliate Leadership Circle membership
  • A three-year certificate of NCTM Affiliate Leadership Circle PLATINUM  membership
