Chapter 19: TARGETTS: A Tool for Teachers to Promote Adaptive Motivation in Any Mathematics Lesson. Melissa C. Gilbert (Santa Clara University) and Lauren E. Musu-Gillette (University of Maryland) share an analytic framework, TARGETTS, that highlights specific instructional strategies to support students’ motivation and mathematical understanding. They demonstrate how teachers can use TARGETTS as a tool for reflection to evaluate and modify existing lessons to promote three aspects of positive motivation: value, confidence, and mastery achievement goals.
