Chapter 9: “Building a School-University Collaboration: A Search for Common Ground.” Margaret S. Smith, Jennifer L. Cartier, Samuel L. Eskelson, and Miray Tekkumru-Kisa (University of Pittsburgh) discuss how university partners must bridge the gap between university and school contexts by adapting professional development activities to meet teachers’ needs for their daily work. In the project described, university partners went through four iterations of a teachers’ professional development program as they endeavored to align their goals for learning with the teachers’ own perceived needs.
