In particular all those historical quotes are fascinating.

It's a mystery to me (a new - so far unemployed - teacher fresh out of retirement) that math isn't taught as math instead of memorization. Particularly since people have been complaining and writing about this for 200 years!

My son, a computer developer, is in full agreement.
