Throughout the 2010 conference, the Member Showcase has been a planned stop for attendees for many reasons.
First-time attendee Chris Dell, a math and technology
coordinator for Shasta County,
Calif., stopped by the NCTM
Member Showcase to check out Mathematics
Teacher magazine. “I get the elementary and middle school versions, but not
the high school edition. So I wanted to take a look,” said Chris.
Mathematics magazine caught the eye of first-time attendee Naomi
Helenini-Aneau of Honolulu’s
Kamehameha Elementary. “I’m looking at math magazines to subscribe to and at
some of the elementary and middle school activity sheets NCTM offers,” said
Naomi while browsing the Member Showcase.
Travis Lemon, attending his seventh NCTM annual meeting,
swung by the Member Showcase for a number of reasons. “I’m checking out the MET
grants, some of the magazines and the cool free stuff,” said Travis.
Member Showcase, and you'll find grade-band-specific activities that you can
take home and start using in your classroom tomorrow, demos on how
to access online lesson plans, interactive resources, and a problems database (a members-only benefit), FREE sample journals, personalized
news releases (a nice way to let everyone know you were here), a membership
certificate and ribbon, assorted giveaways—and more.
NCTM journal editors were available Thursday and Friday to answer questions, present ideas on how to use
the NCTM school journals in the classroom, and offer tips on the journal
article submission process.
NCTM staff is also available to help members take full advantage of their membership, answer
questions, explain benefits, and discuss upcoming conferences and professional
development opportunities. Information on the numerous grants
available only to NCTM members through the Mathematics Education Trust (MET) is also available.
