Abstract:
Not everyone will agree with the ideas in this
article, but I hope that nobody will reject them as
being impossible to implement. Assessment, however we define it, is only a means to an end: the learning of mathematics by all our students. If you suspect that your assessment is getting in the way of that basic goal, then I urge you to tame whatever beast it has become. The success of your students is in your hands—for your assessment is the instrument that defines that success.
