Welcome to the JRME Special Equity Issue. This publication was produced in response to the NCTM Board of Directors’ choice of equity as one of its strategic priorities. In an effort to disseminate information about equity that falls at the intersection between research and practice, an entire issue was planned to maximize discussion and provide an opportunity for professional growth. Articles explore, among other topics, racism, sociopolitics, the “white male math myth,” language diversity, and social justice. An overarching theme concerns the dual issues of equity and power.
The publication, originally online only, has been printed in its entirety as the January 2013 issue of the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, volume 44, number 1.
