NCTM serves as the governmental relations voice for mathematics teachers. Our current government relations efforts are focused at the federal level, through interactions with members of Congress, their legislative staffs, and the Department of Education in Washington, D.C.
However, advocacy on issues often is carried out most effectively at the local and state or provincial levels.
As mathematics teachers, you know from firsthand experience the challenges facing teachers and students in today’s mathematics classrooms. Active involvement by NCTM members and teachers like you is needed to make the vision of the NCTM Standards a reality.
One idea and one voice can make a difference. Collective voices — organized and orchestrated — are at the heart of the political process; they influence decisions. Both politics and education are constantly in a state of change, and you can help shape that change.
