Connecting Research to Teaching: Action Research: A Tool for Exploring Change

An action-research project that the author conducted in his high school classroom using the Interactive Mathematics Program. Two Algebra I classes participated in an 18-day unit on optimum production in a small business. Mathematical ideas are collaboratively discovered through activity, writing and assessment. The author observed and evaluated student learning and offers suggestions for teachers who wish to engage in similar work.
