Technology Tips: Ferrari's Method and Technology

Abstract:
This month: a method for using a graphing calculator to solve a quintic equation. The author uses the root finder of a TI-83, regressions and Ferrari's solution to the quartic equation to obtain an approximate factorization of any quintic. The "Surfing Note" highlights a site co-sponsored by NCTM and the MAA, convergence.mathdl.org, which features articles on math history.
