Sharing Teaching Ideas: Did You Code?

Mary Clausen

November 2005, Volume 99, Issue 4, Page 260

Abstract:
A working backwards method to solve algebraic equations in which students learn to "code" the equations. Coding helps to give students a starting point for solving equations. The students become more confident and successful in their solutions as they do the necessary steps in the correct order. Special needs students (LD, WD, ELL) find the 'coding' to be particularly helpful. When students are experiencing difficulty with solving equations, they can turn to "coding."
