Activities for Students: Visualizing Summation Formulas

Abstract:
This issue focuses on an activity about growing patterns of blocks focused on teaching summation formulas. Students use blocks and graph paper to draw patterns and create summation formulas. Activities are hands-on, open-ended activities that encourage problem solving, reasoning, communication, and mathematical connections. Activities is a regular feature of Mathematics Teacher and highlights activities that develop conceptual understanding of mathematics topics. Includes activity sheets and answers.
