Sharing Teaching Ideas: Finding a Parking Spot for the Binomial Theorem

Karen Hansen, Geoffrey Lewis

August 2007, Volume 101, Issue 1, Page 46

Abstract:
An engaging application that adds meaning to the binomial theorem. The authors use a model of policemen directing cars into parking spaces to simulate the paths of Pascal's Triangle. The binomial theorem is discovered via Pascal's Triangle patterns. Graphing calculators are used to verify found formulas.
