Mathematical Lens
Mathematical Lens: Arches at King Fahd University, Saudi Arabia

Peter Taylor

October 2007, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 179

Abstract:
This issue’s photograph is of architecture in Saudi Arabia and target questions focus on mathematical topics that include the discovery that curve-fitting does not always yield the best answer and examining functional form of the dependence. Mathematical Lens uses photographs as a springboard for mathematical inquiry. The goal of this department is to encourage readers to see patterns and relationships that they can think about and extend in a mathematically playful way. Mathematical Lens is a regular department of Mathematics Teacher.
