Connecting Research to Teaching: Addressing the Equity Principle in the Mathematics Classroom

Abstract:

This month: How NCTM's Equity Principle, presented in Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, was discussed in a class for pre- and in-service teachers. The authors establish that equity principles address instruction, classroom environment, equal opportunity and appropriate curriculum.  The "Connecting Research to Teaching"" department consists of articles that bring research insights and findings to an audience of teachers and other mathematics educators.  This department is edited by Libby Knott and Thomas A. Evitts.
