Delving Deeper: Heron Triangles and Moduli Spaces

Steven Rosenberg, Michael Spillane, Daniel Wulf

May 2008, Volume 101, Issue 9, Page 656

Abstract:

This month: Are triangles with the same area and perimeter congruent?. The authors relate this seemingly simple question to Heron's Formula, Arithmetic-Geometric Mean Inequality, Calculus and Number Theory. Geometers Sketchpad and Computer Algebraic Systems are utilized. The "Delving Deeper" department provides a forum that allows classroom teachers to share the mathematics from their work with students, their classroom investigations and projects, and their other experiences. Edited by Al Cuoco and E. Paul Goldenberg.
