Abstract:

An activity about discounts focused on teaching about percents, fractions, etc., asking students to compute various discount coupons during a shopping trip.

Mathematics Detective articles are open-ended real-world problems that encourage problem solving, reasoning, communication, and mathematical connections. Mathematics Detective is a regular feature of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School and highlights activities that develop conceptual understanding of mathematics topics. Activity sheets are included. Teacher Notes and Solutions are also included.
