Mathematical Roots/Math Roots
A Look at Some Numbers of Old: Perfect, Deficient, and Abundant

Thomasenia Adams, Katherine Murphy

February 2005, Volume 10, Issue 6, Page 309

Abstract:

An activity about number theory focused on teaching perfect, deficient, and abundant numbers, and explains how to identify them. Mathematical Roots are hands-on, open-ended activities that encourage problem solving, reasoning, communication, and mathematical connections. Mathematical Roots is a regular feature of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School and highlights activities that develop conceptual understanding of mathematics topics.
