Teacher to Teacher: Figural and Numerical Modes of Generalizing in Algebra

Abstract:
Two different ways in which preservice elementary majors have performed induction on two algebra tasks that involved linear patterns. Implications for teaching generalization at the middle school level are discussed. Teacher to Teacher is a department written by teachers for other teachers. This department features implications for improving instruction aimed at ideas teachers can use in their own classrooms, schools, and communities.
