Abstract:

An activity about gift cards and gift boxes focused on teaching geometric concepts such as diagonals, finding the center, surface area, volume, and ratios.

Mathematics Detective articles are open-ended real-world problems that encourage problem solving, reasoning, communication, and mathematical connections. Mathematics Detective is a regular feature of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School and highlights activities that develop conceptual understanding of mathematics topics. Activity sheets are included. Teacher Notes and Solutions are also included .An investigation of geometric concepts using a gift card. Includes step-by-step process for turning a gift card into a gift box, as well as a list of questions or problems for the student and answers.
