The A-Maizing Corn Lab: A Geneticist's Biography Leads a Mathematics Exploration

Julie Cwikla, Marcelle Patterson

May 2006, Volume 11, Issue 9, Page 421

Abstract:
An innovative lesson that integrates genetics, literature, and mathematics as a context for students to investigate patterns on Indian corn. This two-day lesson requires students to estimate, collect data, identify and describe patterns, represent their data using bar graphs, use Punnett squares, and investigate probability. Includes questions to be used for worksheets, and samples of student work.
