Abstract:

This month, fifth-grade students at Atwood-Hammond Elementary School in Hammond, Illinois, and fifth graders at Williams Elementary School in Mattoon, Illinois, tackle the "Nine Jumping Numbers" problem, which challenges them to arrange series of numbers around a ferris wheel figure so that sums are the same in each direction. This article is for teachers.
