Introducing Complex Systems into the Mathematics Curriculum

Lyn English

August 2008, Volume 15, Issue 1, Page 38

Abstract:
An approach to introducing elementary school children to complex systems through mathematical modeling activities. A number of principles for designing such learning experiences are presented, together with examples of children’s responses to two sample activities. There is good background information about what a complex system is and how to define complex systems for elementary age students.
