Crystal Clear

Robert Pacyga

January 2004

Abstract:

The structure of many two-dimensional natural and artistic objects is based on patterns that are built from circles and squares. Similarly, structures based on spheres and cubes are the foundation of many three-dimensional objects and patterns. One such important structure is the arrangement of atoms in a crystal. Before we look at the more complex three-dimensional figures, let's start with some two-dimensional ideas.
