Counting Change

May 2005

Abstract:

Count the value of the change you have in your pocket. Combine your data with that of the other students in your class and construct a plot (box plot, dot plot, histogram, etc.) of these amounts that shows the distribution of values. Describe the shape of the distribution. Find the mean and median of the set of values. Many interesting problems involve coins and ways to make change.
