Zoos, Aquariums, and Expanding Students’ Data Literacy

Jan Mokros, Tracey Wright

May 2009, Volume 15, Issue 9, Page 524

Abstract:

Zoo and aquarium educators are increasingly providing educationally rigorous programs that connect their animal collections with curriculum standards in mathematics as well as science. Partnering with zoos and aquariums is a powerful way for teachers to provide students with more opportunities to observe, collect, and analyze scientific data. This article outlines step-by-step data activities for the classroom and field trips and for demonstrating important connections between mathematics and science.
