May 2010

Abstract:
How large and what shape should the pools in a virtual city be to hold all the swimmers? This issue of Student Explorations in Mathematics guides students in using the standard formula of professionals who design community pools to design three pools for a large residential area in a nearby city. A companion teacher’s version includes a Teacher Notes section, with tips, instructional strategies, and a solution key, to facilitate your use of the activity in your classroom.
