problem solvers: problem - What is the shortest route?
March 2012, Volume 18, Issue 7, Page 400
Each month, elementary school teachers are presented with a problem along with suggested instructional notes. Teachers are asked to use the problem in their own classrooms and report solutions, strategies, reflections, and misconceptions to the journal audience. In this month’s geometric experience, students explore the notion of location, direction, and movement using a 10x10 grid to determine the shortest route to one location. Then they are asked to determine the shortest route when multiple locations are involved.
