Mathematical Lens: A Road for Every Wheel

Douglas Wilcock Edited by Ron Lancaster and Brigitte Bentele

November 2012, Volume 106, Issue 4, Page 254

Abstract:
Students analyze a photograph to solve mathematical questions related to the images captured in the photograph. This month, the mathematics involved in a tricycle with square wheels is explored. Arc length, special right triangles, right-triangle trigonometry, and the law of cosines are all involved.
