The silent auction items listed below will be up for bid on Friday, April 19, 2013, by the Mathematics Education Trust (MET) of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). You must be present at the MET Celebration event in Denver to bid on items.

You’ll visit the new Ground Zero and much more. He may even be able to help you get play tickets or dinner reservations. Certainly, he will help make your trip a memorable one.

The E. W. Fiske Guest House (circa 1885) in Helena, Montana, presents an example of an early family home in Montana. The current owners have continued to preserve their great-grandfather’s home. This is a simple, elegant home tastefully furnished from the Victorian era. All three bedrooms are available for a week for a family or three couples. Georges Rouault Wood Engraving

The Georges Rouault wood engraving titled Passion is black and white, matted in black, and framed in a silver-tone frame (approximately 12"x15" framed). Aubert did the wood engraving. The donors purchased the engraving from the Ferdinand Roten Gallery in Baltimore in the 1970s. The Certificate of Authentication is signed by Steve Nilsen as an “original wood-engraving (by Aubert).”

Cross-Stitched Quilt/Bedspread 
Fair Market Value: $350 

This “Hearts and Flowers” cross-stitched quilt/bedspread is done in shades of pink and red on white. As shown, it can be used on a queen-sized bed. It is lightweight, is made with cotton backing, and has a nice, soft feel. The donors bought it in Montana at an auction in the 1970s; it is an antique of unknown age, probably from the 1950s or 1960s. 

 Nativity 

Peruvian Nativity Scene
Fair Market Value: $119
 

The eight-piece nativity scene originated in Peru in a Cusco artist cooperative. The pieces are Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, three wise men, a cow, and a llama. The matte finish gives the pieces a less commercial look than many others. These pieces are a great addition to a household that celebrates Christmas, and the scene can fit in a small setting.

Peruvian Pasadizo (Table Runner) 
Fair Market Value: $150 

This attractive Peruvian pasadizo (table runner) comes from the Chinchero Weaving Cooperative in rural Peru near Machu Picchu. Hand woven from alpaca and sheep’s wool, it measures 39 cm by 105 cm. The yarn was hand-spun on drop spindles and colored using natural dyes made from plant extracts, cochineal (extracted from insect larvae), and mineral oxides. The weaving was then produced on a loom. Making an item this size takes several weeks.

These two unique ceramic bowls were designed, hand-thrown, and signed by the artist at Wesleyan Potters in Middletown, Connecticut, a nonprofit cooperative guild founded in 1948 to promote the learning and development of skills in crafts.

Hummingbird Prints

These two prints of watercolors by Gaye Sanders Fisher are beautiful renditions of Lowcountry flora and fauna. Signed by the artist, these 18" by 24" pieces (Ruffles and Flourishes I and Ruffles and Flourishes II) may be purchased as a set or individually. The highest bidder on either print may choose whether to buy both. Although created in the 1980s, these prints have been stored away from light.

NOTE: The print is displayed in a wood frame with damaged plexiglass.

Amram Ebgi Color Etching

Jerusalem Gate II, an original piece by Amram Ebgi, is a signed and numbered (36/200) color etching with intaglio and two metallic collage elements. The image, 20.25 by 35 inches, is matted and framed as shown in the photograph.
