Chapter 14: How Do Districts Choose Mathematics Textbooks? June Mark, Deborah Spencer, Julie Koehler Zeringue, and Katherine Schwinden (Education Development Center) describe the selection processes that districts used for choosing mathematics instructional materials and detail a new view of those processes. Interviews of mathematics curriculum leaders revealed how state standards and tests influenced the decisions that they made and portrayed how these leaders use research and resources as part of the selection process. This study highlights the essential role that curriculum leaders play in designing the selection process and their strategic choices as the process unfolds.
