Chapter 15: Considerations in the Review and Adoption of Mathematics Textbooks. Rick A. Hudson, Paula Elmer Lahann, and Jean S. Lee (Indiana University) argue that introducing new kinds of textbooks, such as those developed with National Science Foundation support, has changed mathematics textbook design and complicated textbook adoption. They suggest considerations for schools and school districts that are adopting textbooks, including the curriculum’s instructional design, content emphasis, and supports for both students’ and teachers’ learning. The authors also suggest that schools and districts examine their individual needs and values, as well as investigate the research-based evidence on the curricular outcomes and effectiveness.
