Statement: Throughout my career, NCTM has provided me a supportive and positive learning environment and has reinforced my belief that developing expertise as a mathematics teacher is a career-long process. The knowledge base of effective mathematics teaching and learning is continually expanding, and NCTM is a leader in providing information and resources for teachers. It is an exciting time to be a member of NCTM. New efforts to serve members like the daily Math Education SmartBriefs, MyNCTM Digest, revised membership structure, and PDSC outreach to school districts with professional development are all ways that NCTM is providing opportunities for excellence.

As we enter the next 100 years, NCTM must continue to raise the bar in all areas, providing high-quality opportunities and resources for teachers to develop themselves and to take their teaching to the next level of effectiveness and impact. NCTM must stay relevant and current, and it must continue to change with the times to meet the needs of its members in a diverse and continually changing society.

My thirty years of experience teaching students with a wide variety of backgrounds, and my work with teachers from around the United States and Canada in professional development, uniquely position me to identify and respond to teacher needs. I am excited for the challenge of shaping the vision of NCTM for the next centennial and of relentlessly pursuing the ultimate mission of advocating for high-quality mathematics teaching and learning for each and every student.
