How might we make high school mathematics work for more students? From the essential concepts all students need to increase their opportunities to the policies, practices, and procedures that exist in many schools, we will unpack the issues, engage in critical conversations, and look to next steps to make high school mathematics education work for each and every student.

Participants will gain an understanding of-

  • challenges related to high school mathematics and ways to initiate critical conversations;
  • issues related to teacher and students tracking and the structural barriers that need to be addressed;
  • Essential Concepts and how they can be used as a framework to focus instruction;
  • ways to organize the Essential Concepts into pathways so that every student has access; and
  • actions they can take to begin changing high school mathematics.
