Use NCTM’s Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices as a foundation to prepare students for success on the SAT Math test. In 2016, the SAT was redesigned with a focus on high-quality classroom instruction so that preparation for the college entrance exam would be more aligned with preparation for college. This session will review the SAT test specifications and model how the Essential Mathematics Teaching Practices support success on the SAT and in postsecondary math courses.
Outcomes: Participants will—
- use Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All as a framework for implementing college- and career-ready standards that will prepare students for the SAT;
- increase their knowledge of the SAT math domains and test specifications;
- consider the importance of access and equity in implementing high-quality standards; and
- be able to relate current content taught in respective courses to the SAT mathematics domains.
