Friday Evening Keynote Address
An Unapologetic Conversation with Black Men in Mathematics
Friday, November 19, 2021
7:05 – 8:30 PM
The national narrative in mathematics education too often focuses on narrow outcomes with little consideration on the generational impacts on race, racism, and antiblackness. This keynote brings together a panel of Black men who are mathematics education experts. They will provide insights on their experiences,
hopes, and vision for mathematics teaching and learning. The panel will be moderated by NCTM's Past President, and the panelists will engage in an unapologetic conversation about being Black men in mathematics education working to serve communities that have been historically excluded in
mathematics.
The
2021 NCTM Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Marta Civil, Elizabeth Fennema, and
Steven Leinwand at the Friday Evening Keynote.
