President Address

Building, Enlarging, and Empowering the Mathematics Community

Thursday, November 18, 2021
6:00 – 7:00 PM

Who is part of our mathematics community? How do we build and sustain an inclusive mathematics community that values all voices? Do we create an inviting community that values all voices that includes students, classroom teachers, instructional coaches, specialists, administrators, families, community members and organizations, teacher educators, curriculum and assessment developers, publishers, and policy makers? To address the critical work ahead, we must work together as a mathematics community, engaging in critical conversations that lead to effective actions that address policies and practices to create an equitable, inclusive system in PK–12 mathematics. Let's gather to examine potential community models and engage in discussions to build, enlarge, and empower a mathematics community that broadens the purposes of teaching and learning mathematics and fosters a sense of belonging in the mathematics community.
