Thursday Evening Keynote Address
Asian American/Canadian & Pacific Islanders
(AACPI) Visibility and Invisibility- Creating Space of Learning and Unlearning
Thursday, November 18, 2021
7:05 – 8:30 PM
This session brings visibility to the contributions of AACPI
communities, leaders, and mathematics educators. Asian Americans/Canadians and
Pacific Islanders are often an “add-on” in conversations about race and racism
in mathematics education. This session centers the Asian American/Canadian and
Pacific Islander perspective/experience and brings to light the untold
histories and stories of our contributions and marginalization in US schools
with the goal of building on these experiences to shape the work we do as
equity-oriented mathematics educators.
The
2020 NCTM Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Rita Janes and Karen Karp at the Thursday
Evening Keynote.
