Engaging students is key to opening up access to high-level mathematics. If the teacher is doing all the talking, how engaged will students be? To close the achievement gap, we need to embrace mathematical diversity and students' diversity, and we may need to rethink our assumptions about teaching, learning, schools, and mathematics.
