Improving Math Leadership
My new position of leading the math department has changed the way I look at education, for me and my students. I have taught for 16 years, working hard in my classroom, finding success for my students however I can, hitting obstacles and overcoming them, improving my craft step-by-step, and yet I still know so little. Educational research is moving rapidly; leaders in the field are publishing and blogging and lecturing to the nth degree. Having to determine the best information and disseminate it to my colleagues has been overwhelming. My school is at a turning point. We have been an average performing school in a predominantly blue -collar, hard-working town and we are starting to see a change towards moving beyond a diploma, a realization that we can be more. By attending the conference, I will gain more of what I need to reach our goals.
