Exploring Probability: Aligning with the Common Core   

My proposal is to take a graduate level course in basic probability. I teach 7 th grade mathematics, and the Common Core State Standards for School Mathematics at the 7 th grade level have a major focus on probability. However, in my undergraduate preparation to teach secondary mathematics, I never took a course on probability. I have multiple objectives that would be met taking this course. First, I believe that taking this course will strengthen my skills in order to better teach the topics probability. Second, I expect that the rigor and excitement of taking graduate level mathematics will be a transformative experience for me as a professional. I believe that rising to meet this new challenge will help me to better understand the world of mathematics. Finally, I hope that my positive experience with higher level mathematics will help me relate to my students.
