Multiplying My Students' Chances to Excel in Mathematics
I want my students to learn that there is more than one way to solve a problem and that Mathematics is a language in and of itself. Too often, my students seem interested only in the answer and less in discussing methods and ideas. I have had the pleasure of teaching mathematics throughout my seven year career, but as a special educator, my training hasn't primarily been in this field. I would like to take math courses because I believe it would further enable me to present my students with a greater variety of problem-solving methods, as well as, showing them the potential of math applications in their real lives.
