Developing Positive Mathematical Identities Through Math History
With the support of this grant, I will complete a comprehensive study on the history of mathematics with an emphasis on non-European contributions to mathematics. By completing this study, I will promote the development of positive mathematical dispositions in my students by presenting math as a field built from many cultures' contributions. This will be achieved through development of lesson plans incorporating math history topics from a diverse range of sources, a departmental unit study of supplemental curriculum resources, and a PD presentation sharing the results of field-testing the lessons.
