From Small Town to Big Conference: Expanding Professional Communities
As a multi-grade teacher in a small rural school, there are no other middle level math teachers in the district to share ideas with. I find I miss the connection to mathematics education professionals that I had experienced throughout my undergraduate and graduate programs. The privilege to attend the NCTM Annual Conference would not only afford me the opportunity to access the professional network of mathematics teachers but also allow me to come away with more experience, techniques, and knowledge to improve the education of the students in my small school classroom, the knowledge of other teachers in my building as well as the students in their classrooms. I have always wanted to attend an NCTM conference and will keep trying until I get there.
