Keynote Speakers Include Robert Moses and Danny Glover
Reston, Va. - April 19, 2021 - During an unprecedented year for education, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) will host its annual meeting virtually this month. Educators and leaders will come together to share their inspiration and guidance for the coming year. There will be more than 500 education sessions, interactive activities and networking opportunities. The 2021 NCTM Annual Meeting Moving Forward-Kicking off NCTM's Next 100 Years will cover all levels, PK-grade 12. This year's event, unlike those in the past, will take place over two weeks, April 21-24 and April 28-May 1, 2021. The event will feature presenters from across the U.S. and Canada and will offer professional development about new advances and technologies for the classroom, access and equity for all students, engaging students, and many other topics.
“Our teachers, students and families have taken on a lot this past year, and we support and salute all of their efforts,” said NCTM President Trena Wilkerson. “This year's theme-Moving Forward-will help us come together and share what we have learned through our different experiences; but just as important we will look for ways to move forward to provide all students access to high-quality mathematics education.”
José Luis Vilson, a veteran educator, writer, speaker, and activist in New York City, will open the conference on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 6:00 PM ET. He is the author of This Is Not A Test: A New Narrative on Race, Class, and Education. He often speaks with national publications about education, math and race.
A session not to be missed will be the closing of the conference: Connecting Civil Rights to Math Literacy for All. This session will feature Bob Moses, civil right activist and founder of The Algebra Project, Danny Glover, actor, producer and humanitarian, Dr. Nell B. Cobb, mathematics educator, and BJ Walker, president of In the Public Way. The conversation will take place on Saturday, May 1 at 4:45 PM ET.

- Mathematics teaching and learning
