Developing a department that can stand the test of time takes a herculean effort. The topic has to be different from other departments, it has to be sustainable, and, of course, it has to be of interest to readers. Ron Lancaster took on that challenge eleven years and 100 columns ago with Mathematical Lens—and made it look easy. For 100 issues of Mathematics Teacher, Ron and two co-editors have shared photographs of interesting objects, art, and architecture from around the world. For 100 issues, they have developed mathematics problems, concepts, and areas of discussion around each of those photographs to inspire teachers and challenge students. For 100 issues, they have edited articles, whether written by themselves or others, to fit the mission and ensure the integrity of the department. That achievement deserves a round of applause.
